The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 in theaters 12/09/15!

Where to even BEGIN.? A few weeks ago The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 was released! And, of course, my mom and I knew we had to see it in theaters.

But, first, let's take a step back for a minute and start at the BEGIN.ning, shall we? Or, leap, into the summer of 2010.

It all started when Adam Lambert was on tour and did a twitter party, asking fans their opinions on books, shows, etc., wondering what they were into. A fan asked him what his favorite book was at the moment and he replied with 'The Hunger Games.'  Of course, my mom and I were intrigued since we had no clue what that was at the time. So, we went to Amazon to check it out and my mom ended up purchasing the first book. She then went onto finishing it within days and ordered the next! Same thing with the final book to the trilogy. She raved on an on about how good they were, but I didn't read too many books back then.

My turn to get hooked didn't start until a few years later.

2012. The Hunger Games finally came out as a movie. I remember my mom not being happy with the choices of characters (at first) since she had already created an opinion of what they should look like from reading the books prier to the movie. Unfortunately, we didn't see either of the first two movies in theaters, so we didn't get to watch this movie until a little later in 2012, when it was released on DVD.

And, of course, we loved it! I had never seen a movie quite like that. Although, I didn't start reading the books until about a year later.

October 2013. I had just finished reading the final Harry Potter book and was looking for something to read to fill the void. So, I thought I'd give The Hunger Games books a try.

Day one of reading and I was HOOKED. Why I hadn't started reading this books sooner was beyond me. I finished that book in a few weeks, then started Catching Fire right away. Not sure the date of finishing Catching Fire, but I know it was shortly before Christmas time. I figured I'd wait until the holidays were over to finish reading The Hunger Games series and ended up finishing around February 2014. Sadly, to my regret, we didn't see Catching Fire when it was released in theaters, but bought it as soon as it was released on DVD!

Let's fast forward a bit to December 2014. Going to see Mockingjay Part 1 in theaters.

After missing both of the first two movies in theaters, there was no way we were missing any others. After a few weeks of figuring out the best time to see it, we finally decided on December 17th! I meant to write a recap after viewing the movie, but with all the hustle and bustle with Christmas, it slipped my mind.

So, how about I do it now!

We had originally set out to go to a 2:00PM or so viewing of the movie at a theater within 5 miles of our house, but then my brother found a better theater about 20 minutes away. So, we decided we'd go to that airing at Regal Cinemas instead. Although, we cut it pretty close! First of all, we couldn't for the life of us figured out how to get into the theater! It was on the back end of a mall, so it wasn't very clear. Then, once we found our way inside, we had about 10 minutes to get our tickets, popcorn and drinks. We managed to accomplish that and make it into the theater in time! Also getting a Mockingjay cup they were selling.

After the movie is quite a blur, but I managed to get a couple pictures!

I do remember coming home and my brother telling me that all expenses for the movie and whatnot were taken care of by him as a Christmas gift!

Now, let's fast forward a few months to Mockingjay Part 1's DVD release on March 6th, 2015! Most of which, is a blur, but I remember going into Best Buy and Walmart on the day of the release and buying (more than I should have) a couple copies!

A little side note to add to this Hunger Games story, on October 2nd 2015, my mom and I stopped by Best Buy because we had heard they were giving away two free posters to anyone who stopped by to look at one of Samsung's new products. We went to the front desk and the lady at the checkout had no clue what we were talking about! We were about to give up and leave, assuming they just didn't have it at ours, when I saw a big Samsung stand! We went over and they gave us not two, but four posters! LOL!

Now, onto present time. December 9th, 2015. The date that my mom and I decided we were going to see Mockingjay Part 2. Also, my birthday gift promised by my mom in August!

Originally, we had decided that we were going to go to the 3:50 airing, but last minute changed our minds to the 12:45 airing. But, let's start at the BEGIN.ning of the day, first. Woke up around 10am and did the usual. Got ready and we were off at 12:00pm on the dot! The mall where we were going to see the movie was about a 20 minute drive, so we were leaving a bit early. Good thing we did, though, as there was a bunch of traffic on the way! Didn't get there until around 12:35pm.

We drove around the mall and found our parking space, a much better one at that, seeing that the last time we went we had no clue where the entrance was. I have to admit, I was a bit nervous LOL. Still and wasn't prepared for the final movie. Not sure if it's hit me yet that it was the final installment of the series. Don't like saying that! haha. Anyway, we made our way into the theater, got popcorn and a large soda and we were on our way! Theater 9, same as Mockingjay Part 1! I thought that was cool. When we walked in, all the lights that are on the floor to help you be able to see where your seats were weren't working! It was pitch black except for the screen. You could barely even see the seats, let alone if there was a person in them. Luckily we didn't accidentally sit on anyone! haha. I've never been in a theater that was so dark. Couldn't see a thing walking in or out of the theater. Then, we sat through what seemed to be trailers for movie after movie (good ones, at that) when just suddenly, Mockingjay started playing! No sign it was going to start, just did LOL. Also, during the previews, they showed a trailer of Jennifer's new movie 'Joy'! So that was cool.

And, with that, I saw the final Hunger Games. I honestly am speechless. It was incredible, bawled my eyes out for a while after. Not to mention several times during the movie itself. So, so good. Jennifer and Josh especially did an INCREDIBLE job. They both deserve a plethora of awards for their performances. I was absolutely blown away. And.... Finnick :( That was hard to watch. Knew it was coming and still wasn't ready for it.

After the movie ended and watching the credits roll, we had an order I had been waiting to pick up at Hot Topic on the other side of the mall. Made our way through and picked up my Mockingjay Pin necklace! Then headed over to Barnes & Noble to pick up the recent US Weekly Collectors edition magazine, too! I guess you could say today was a Hunger Games day.

I was hoping to be able to see the movie in theaters for a second time, given that it's the last time it will be, but, unfortunately with all the holiday craziness (not to mention it's expensive), I don't think it will happen. So glad I got to see it once along with last year's showing!

I'm so sad to see this incredible trilogy come to an end. As cheesy as it sounds, I will hold these characters and story in my heart forever. I'll never be able to explain how much it means to me and how much it has touched my life, as well as made a difference in the world. I honestly don't know what I would have done without it. And, I have to say, Jennifer Lawrence did an incredible job on all of these movies. She has been and always will be the best Katniss

Thank you, Suzanne Collins ♥
